  • OUR HISTORY

    I guess my career started like a lot of peoples did, by chance sort of. As a young kid I found a can of Krylon and the rest as they say is history. I began by painting my bike. The funny part of it all was, I guess I was never satisfied with the color, so each week I painted it another color. Momma commented one day that she couldn’t believe I actually taped up all the chrome pieces. Boy, I would give anything to have some of those bikes back ! I even built a few chopper bikes that were pretty cool { at least I thought they were}.

    Later as a young teenager, cars became my next target. My daddy had been in the mechanic business with his dad in his younger days so he was always tinkering with some project car. He always included my brother and I in anything he was working on. I quickly decided though, as much as I loved working on cars, grease under my fingernails wasn’t for me. I was born to paint and make things shine like new money! So daddy gave me an opportunity on one of  his projects. I won’t go into details but he and momma were impressed with what I did and encouraged me enroll into the auto body course at Troup Tech.

    I started class in the fall of 1981 after graduating high school. Mr. John Bradley was the instructor for auto body at Troup Tech. He was the best and as it all unfolded became a great friend to me. As I look back on that time in my life, I realize now more than ever, what a great teacher and friend I had.

    After graduating at Tech, I had a few job offers here in town. I accepted and began my career at Westbrook. I was hired on by Joe Thomas in the spring of 1983 as a body tech. He was the best man I’ve ever worked for to this day. I guess you could say he was kind of like a grandfather to me. To this day I can honestly say I’ve never been around someone his age that was as much fun to be around. The most important thing is though he taught me a ton about automobiles, how the business operates, and life itself. I wish every young man had a guy like that in their lifetime. Joe retired in 1990 and Mr. Westbrook handed me the reins to the body shop. After 5 enjoyable years at the helm, I was ready for the next challenge.

    In June of 1995 Precision Auto Body was born. A lot of hard work and preparation went into the founding of my new business. At the time I was a young father of two and scared but confident I could make a good go of it. Looking back on that era now, it was actually great timing to start a new business. A lot of the older guys in the auto body  business were beginning to retire and a few referred some of their clients my way. Some of the local insurance companies also helped me along the way and still do to this day. To all of these people as well as my customers and employees I am very grateful. It hasn’t always been a bed of roses but for the most part it has been good to me and my family. I’ve always been a firm believer that if you repair every car as if it were your own you’ll do just fine. That idea still stands firmly in my heart and mind today.
